Absorption and fluorescence spectra of Pr$^{3+}$ in YPO$_4$

Abstract : Results of spectroscopic measurements of YPO/sub 4/:Pr/sup 3+/ are reported. Based on these results, the fluorescent lines were identified. It is confirmed that the 612.8 nm emission line is due to/sup 1/D/sub 2/( Gamma /sub 3/) to /sup 3/H/sub 4/( Gamma /sub 5/) transition of Pr/sup 3+/. It is found that the fluorescence lines from/sup 1/D/sub 2/ are dominant for samples of low Pr/sup 3+/ concentration when/sup 3/P/sub 0/ is selectively excited, which indicated very efficient relaxation from/sup 3/P/sub 0/ to/sup 1/D/sub 2/.
