Uniform, variable size rectangle beam scanning. Application to hadrontherapy

Abstract : A beam optics method is described, which allows the dynamical adjustment of the transverse size of a sweeping particle beam with rectangular, uniform cross-section. This technique can find applications in the domain of hadrontherapy where it introduces various advantages compared to the existing methods of active or passive irradiation.
