VUV spectroscopy of CH$_3$Cl and CH$_3$I

Abstract : High-resolution photoabsorption spectra of CH$_3$Cl and CH$_3$I are reported in the energy range 3.9–10.8 eV (320–115 nm). Several features are observed for the first time in the CH$_3$Cl spectrum and a number of new assignments are proposed. For both molecules, the present work provides the most reliable absolute cross-sections yet reported at energies above the dissociative A band transition.
