Elastic scattering and soft diffraction with ALFA

Abstract : The ALFA detector in ATLAS aims at measuring the absolute luminosity and the total cross-section with 2–3% accuracy. Its uses elastically scattered protons whose impact position on a fiber detector, located 240 m away from the interaction point, allow a measurement of the scattering angle.
