Status report of the heavy ions source research and development for Spiral2

Abstract : The heavy ions low energy beam line (LBE) of Spiral2 is under construction at LPSC since June 2008. It is presently equipped with a modified version of the PHOENIX ECRIS (names PHOENIX V2) which will be used as starter source in 2012 at GANIL. The LBE has been specially designed to hold high intensities of multicharged ions. The main features of the beam line will be presented along with a status of its commissioning. The beams requirement of the future S3 detector of Spiral2 demands a high performance ion source operating at 28 GHz. The options available to install such an ECRIS as soon as possible after 2012 will be discussed. In this field, a status of the A-PHOENIX difficult commissioning will be given.
