Exotic nuclear shapes and the level mixing models

Abstract : In the quest for possible exotic nuclear deformations as for instance the ones carrying tetrahedral symmetry, it has been advocated by some authors that the techniques in- spired by the level mixing models could be used. However, it can be shown that when such methods are applied, one can easily be lead to wrong conclusions. In this paper, af- ter pointing out to the formal inadequacy of such approaches we discuss a few examples of misinterpretations.
