Interactions of Hadrons in the CALICE Silicon Tungsten Electromagnetic Calorimeter

Abstract : A prototype of a highly granular silicon tungsten electromagnetic calorimeter, SiW Ecal, composed of approximately 10000 cells contained in a volume of 18x18x30 cm^3 for a detector at a future lepton collider has been examined in test beam campaigns conducted by the CALICE collaboration. The contribution proposed for this years' symposium will concentrate on the exploitation of the unprecedented high granularity which allows for an efficient particle separation and the tracking of individual particles within hadronic cascades. The latter constitutes an important input to the tuning of existing hadronic shower models as available within the simulation toolkit GEANT4. Furthermore ideas for collaboration with groups of applied mathematics will be outlined.
