Serpent--OpenFOAM coupling in transient mode: of a Godiva prompt critical burst

Abstract : This work presents the internal coupling of a Monte Carlo code and a CFD code for transient reactor simulations. Routines from the C++ finite-volume OpenFOAM multi-physics toolkit have been merged with the Serpent Monte Carlo code and linked at compilation at source code level. The internal coupling between the two codes allows to perform transient Monte Carlo neutronics simulations with thermal-hydraulics and thermo-mechanics feedbacks within a single tool, without requiring input/output data transfer to external codes. A Godiva super-prompt-critical burst has been selected to test the numerical behaviour of the Serpent--OpenFOAM coupling in presence of moving mesh. Experimental data are compared to the results of the coupled neutronics/themal-mechanics simulation.
