Bi-selective mass separator
B. Bru1, M. Duval1, F. Varenne1

During the SPIRAL2 APD several designs for a mass separator were studied. This separator should deliver, subsequently to the production target/ion source system, simultaneously two beams of different mass for the low energy area and/or for post acceleration with the CIME cyclotron. The specifications were extremely difficult: two beam lines, resolving power > 250, only 15 mass difference between simultaneous beams. A total magnetic approach was proposed. It consists of four magnetic dipoles. A first Elbeck type dipole distributes the ions following parallel trajectories. A second one placed in opposition ensures the selection of one of the light masses .A third dipole deviates the ions of heavy mass analysed by the first dipole, preserving their parallel trajectories and providing a reorientation of the beam. A fourth dipole of Elbeck type, ensures for this second way the selection of one mass. The magnetic structure and the optical simulations are presented.
