Le gisement magdalénien de Neschers et sa situation par rapport à la coulée basaltique du Tartaret (Puy-de-Dôme, France) : état de la question

Abstract : A magdalenian settlement was excavated at Neschers (Puy-de-Dôme, France) by the Abbé Croizet, around the middle of the nineteenth century. The remains layed at the bottom of a thick lava flow from the Tartaret volcano; however, there is a doubt whether the remains were beneath or besides the lava (i.e., whether the eruption took place before or after the human occupation). The archaeological materials were very interesting and lead one to try to study the site again today. The last chronological data indicate that the lava and the settlement are nearly contemporaneous to each other, around 12500 BP, i.e. between 14 and 15 ka before us.
