By imposing more rigid constraints than those imposed by the formats of volumen and codex, the Web threatens to render obsolete all text organised for continuous reading. Literature is directly affected by this phenomenon, in the form of the novel. Among the different scenarios possible, the most promising would be a digital support with the leaf structure of codex, while being connected to the Web.
