This document describes work on the development of the search for the Higgs boson in the H->gamma gamma channel with the ATLAS detector, the discovery of the Higgs boson and the study of its properties with the Run 1 dataset. The search for additional scalar resonance using the Run 1 and Run 2 datasets is also presented, as well as prospects for future developments for searches in the diphoton final state.
